  1. Looks like they’ve removed it from the front page of the store, at least temporarily. You can still search for it but trying to claim it throws an error.

    • Incredibly unlikely unless Dying Light has something to do with cake, or a birthday, as the hint image in the banner features a birthday cake. The prior banner featured a forklift, due to forklift driving being a reoccurring minigame in the Shenmue series. With Epic having had an exclusivity agreement for that game at launch, along with it apparently not selling particularly well, it made sense as a giveaway.

As for the suggestion of Neon Abyss, it does look like that game has birthday cake among its hundreds of acquirable items, so its possible, though that cake looks nothing like the one in the banner, being a single slice with a strawberry on top, not a multi-layer cake with a candle. A leaker claiming to know the list in advance has suggested that game, but for all we know they are just making guesses based on the hint images, or have wrong information. It wouldn’t be the first time that a fake giveaway list was posted.

Someone else suggested the rhythm game Fuser with a Justin Timberlake add-on, as the next day’s banner link apparently comes up in the launcher when changing your system date. That game appears to feature a stage decorated with giant cakes, and Epic recently acquired Harmonix, the game’s developer, so it seems like a feasible option. I tested the system date adjustment, and it did in fact bring up a blank banner that took me to the DLC page in question, though the client could just be misbehaving when presented with an inaccurate date.

  2. I guess everyone is wanting Shenmue, because the Epic Games launcher opens up browser page when you press store, and when you try to claim Shenmue, you can’t get it.

    • Sometimes all you have to do is be patient. If you can’t get the game, wait an hour and try again. Because I was able to claim it.

        • Yeah, I never played Shenmue 1 or 2 back in the day, but I got the remasters (remakes?) a year or two ago and, well… playing the first one I understand why they were considered ground breaking at the time, but measuring them against modern gaming standards they’re just not very good. And Shenmue 3 apparently retains a lot of these outdated mechanics for better or worse. Which is awesome for the people who remember the originals fondly, but not so much for me.

Still, free is free, and I’m sure this style of game will click with a lot of people.

          • I did, a lot of people also forget that Shenmue is the game that made QTE’s popular. But if you like Yakuza, there’s a chance you’ll like Shenmue 3. The series does some of the same things that Yakuza does and managed to improve on. Like the diversions. In fact I think Shenmue is part of the reasons they exist in Yakuza. Though I’ll admit I could be wrong.

        • I enjoyed the first two games, but kind of forgot the 3rd game was ever released. lol
I’ll eventually play it. Just for nostalgia reasons.
