Let’s start off with the biggest news this week;

The biggest news this week is The Sims 4 going from $20 to zero bucks on Steam, Playstation and Xbox! This change will happen on October 18th so you have to wait a bit more to torture, ahem, take good care of your sims. More about this here.

Most free games on Steam are either bad or are designed to drain you with microtransactions, luckily there are a couple PC games that recently launched on Steam as free and are actually pretty good. Check them out:

  • A.W.O.L. is a singleplayer first person shooter made in the old Duke Nukem 3D engine. It has 9 levels and advanced AI for both your teammates and enemies.
  • The Longest Walk is a great name for a walking simulator like this! This one is a deeply personal biographical walking-simulator game about the game author’s father experience of living with depression.
  • Astronite – Landing on Neplea is a prologue to Astronite, a 1bit metroidvania that combines action, exploration, puzzles and platforms. Look pretty fun, to be honest!

Ubisoft+ is offering a free trial until October 10th so there’s still time to play some big name games like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla or Far Cry 6 for free in that period. Check out more info below:

What’s free at Epic Games Store this week?

There are a couple of freebies at Epic Games Store this week:

Spirit of the North is a 3rd person adventure in which you play as a fox while exploring magical lands. The game is both pretty and pretty fun to play but in my opinion it could use better puzzles and tighter controls. Still worth a play, though.

Spirit of the North has Very Positive reviews and it usually costs $16.79 but you can get it for free at Epic Games before next Thursday, September 15th 2022.

One last freebie this week at Epic is the The Captain.

I think every fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate and other star-ry tv shows will get a kick out of this retro RPG with a modern twist!

The Captain has Very Positive reviews and it usually costs $16.79 but you can get it for free at Epic Games before next Thursday, September 15th 2022.

NEXT WEEK at Epic you can get ARK: Survival Evolved and Gloomhaven for free!

Any other new DRM-free game deals?

Indie Gala is offering just 1 free PC game for free at this moment. All of the following (well, this time just the one) come as DRM-free downloads:

  • Xpock, a retro space shooter
Screenshot from Leeward, free at Itch until September 30th

Currently there are only two games for free at Itch.io this week:

Oh, and also make sure to check out this ever-expanding list of 51+ permanently free games at GOG.

Got Amazon Prime? Make sure to snatch a ton of free games before the end of September, including Assassin’s Creed Origins, Shadow of Mordor and more!

If you don’t have Amazon Prime you can still get the games by using a trial account. More about that in this post.

EDIT: New freebie at Amazon Prime this week is the Flames of the Nether DLC for Minecraft Dungeons. Get it at this link.

This is a list of 10 horror games you can get for free either on Steam or as a free DRM-free download and all of these free horror games are absolutely worth a play. If you dare….

Check out that spooky post here.

I’ve also compiled a list of 10 weird indie adventure games that I’ve enjoyed and I hope you will too. All of these games are short and fun and none of them will ask you for money via microtransactions. Check out the weird games here.
