Starting from today, The Elder Scrolls Arena and The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall are both permanently free on Steam due to Bethesda launcher shutting down on May 11th 2022.
ABOUT THE GAMES:
While outdated by today standards, these two games paved the way for the beloved Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim titles for The Elder Scrolls series.
Here’s a chance for the older players to take a stroll down memory lane for free – and a chance for younger players to see what RPG gaming was like in the good old times.
HOW TO GET THE CLASSIC ELDER SCROLL GAMES FOR FREE:
To get The Elder Scrolls Arena free on Steam, head over to the Steam Store Page and add it to your account, free of charge!
You can get The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall at this link.
Enjoy playing!

I think Daggerfall still has the biggest video game map ever. Too big, IMHO.
Yep, it takes 8 real world days to cross the continent on foot. While carriage travel is faster it’s also very expensive.
And if I remember right, the world map is created via RNG.
It was generated once with rng then saved.
not the biggest ever in a videogame, that’d be No Man’s Sky followed by Minecraft and THEN Daggerfall in third place (although with a HUGE gap in between the 3) but yeah, still incredibly huge ^^
I used this vid as a source, from memory of all games out there that I know of, it does seem pretty legit: https://www.tiktok.com/@growtiktokfast/video/7058032688401353986?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7090112848223274501
