  1. The dollar tier is even worse than the usual trash that Humble has been putting in their dollar tiers in recent years, in order to drive up the “beat the average” price to ensure that anything but the highest tier is not worth considering. Lead and Gold is a multiplayer game whose online community has been dead for the better part of a decade. According to SteamDB, there is currently only 1 player in-game.

Grip looks good, but its been bundled a number of times, most recently in a Fanatical build your own bundle for as little as 1 game for $1, 5 for $3, or 10 for $5. Miscreated has mixed reviews on Steam, and many recent reviews describe the player-base as “dead” and the game as “abandoned” by its developers. It does seem like something one might potentially be able to get some enjoyment out of solo though. Keep Talking might be an interesting concept, but it’s more of a local party game, which probably won’t appeal much to anyone not specifically looking for a party game.

That tier could be alright for a few dollars, but makes no sense at essentially the same $11 price as the top tier. Humble has all but removed the “pay what you want” aspect from their site. And while they try to heavily promote their bundles as being “for charity”, by default they take a 30% cut for themselves, split 65% between all the publishers, and only give a measly 5% to charity. You can still customize the ratios on their regular bundles like this, but Humble requires at least 15% to go to them, aka Ziff Davis, the multi-billion dollar media company that bought the site out several years back. And you can no longer choose which individual developers get the money, so games that are dead, abandoned or just not interesting to you may be getting more of your money than the games you are interested in.

Anyway, the top tier features Bigfoot, a game that’s been in early access for close to 5 years. It didn’t look all that great when I watched some Youtubers play it years ago, but it might be better now. Second Extinction shows some potential, but its also a multiplayer-centric game in early access, with user reviews describing a lack of content and bugs/crashes, with a rather small player-base that could easily dry up before the game ever sees a full release. Visage actually looks rather good, and I would be interested in playing that, but it’s about the only thing I would consider getting the bundle for that hasn’t already been bundled for next to nothing. And if I were going to pay $11 for it, I would much rather have more of that money go toward the developers of that game, rather than them getting some tiny portion of the proceeds, probably not much more than a dollar, with the rest mostly going to a media conglomerate and the developers of some games I’m not all that interested in. It’s probably better to wait for the game to go on sale on its own. Or for it to appear in a better bundle.
