Twilight Monk is one of those rare indie titles that immediately catch my eye thanks to its beautiful art style. From the moment you step into its mystical world, you’re treated to hand-drawn environments, fluid animations, and a unique visual identity that makes the game feel like a product of love.
Check out the let’s play video below:
Gameplay-wise, Twilight Monk offers solid, fast-paced combat and a satisfying sense of progression. The controls feel responsive and the world is interesting and well-crafted.
However,
The lack of an auto-save feature feels like a major oversight, especially in a modern action-adventure game where players are used to fluid, forgiving progress tracking. Losing big chunks of gameplay because you forgot to manually save (or thought you had) can be seriously frustrating. One time I had to replay a whole boss battle because I forgot to run back to a save point after the fight.
It’s disappointing because everything else about Twilight Monk feels so thoughtfully crafted. The controls are smooth, the combat is satisfying, and the world begs to be explored. But the save system can turn what should be an immersive adventure into a stressful experience, making players overly cautious instead of allowing them to fully lose themselves in the game.
PROS: Beautiful Art, Music, Tight Controls, Interesting World
CONS: Frustrating Save System, Healing Pickups Are Way Too Rare, Cliché Story
Twilight Monk has Mostly Positive Reviews and is available on Steam for $20.
