Epic’s next freebie is Voidwrought, a dark 2D action-platformer that looks very much like it was designed for people staring sadly at their backlog and whispering, “I still need something to fill the Hollow Knight-shaped hole.”
Voidwrought is free on the Epic Games Store from June 25 to July 2, 2026, alongside RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition. Once you claim it during the giveaway period, it stays in your Epic library.

The game is a hand-drawn Metroidvania set in a world of cosmic horror, ancient ruins, dead gods, creepy monsters, and all the usual “this place definitely failed several health inspections” energy. You explore the remains of the First Civilisation, unlock new powers, collect Artifacts, fight bosses, and expand a shrine in the ruins.
So, how close is it to Hollow Knight?
Pretty close in vibe, but not exactly the same beast.
Like Hollow Knight, Voidwrought gives you a dark hand-drawn world, tight 2D movement, ability-based exploration, boss fights, mysterious lore, and a lot of moody underground wandering. The Hollow Knight comparison is obvious enough that even players on Steam directly mention the similar movement and atmosphere.
The main difference is that Voidwrought seems faster, more compact, and easier to get into, while Hollow Knight is bigger, more layered, and generally more punishing. Some players describe Voidwrought as easier overall, especially once you start gaining powers, but still praise the movement, music, boss fights, and exploration rewards.
So no, it probably will not dethrone Hollow Knight. Very few games can. Hollow Knight is the kind of game that makes other Metroidvanias show up to class and nervously adjust their backpacks.
But as a free pickup? Absolutely worth claiming. If you want a stylish, creepy, fast-paced Metroidvania with cosmic horror flavor and strong Hollow Knight energy, this is an easy add to your Epic library.
