A New Beginning: Final Cut is free to claim on GOG for a limited time. Better yet, this is a DRM-free copy, so you can download the offline installer and keep it without needing GOG Galaxy running in the background.
Developed by Daedalic Entertainment, A New Beginning is a classic point-and-click adventure with a strong environmental sci-fi theme. The story follows Bent Svensson, a retired bioengineer who abandoned his research into alternative energy and moved to the forests of Norway.
His quiet retirement ends when a young woman named Fay suddenly appears and claims she has travelled back from the future. Humanity is heading toward a climate catastrophe, and Bent’s research may be one of the few things capable of stopping it.
From there, the two travel across different locations, investigate a conspiracy, solve puzzles, and try to stop Bent’s work from falling into the hands of an energy tycoon with rather different priorities.
The game uses a distinctive graphic-novel presentation, with animated comic-style cutscenes and the sort of traditional inventory puzzles that should feel familiar to fans of old-school adventure games. Expect roughly 9–10 hours for the main story.
Apparently saving humanity from climate disaster is free this weekend. Real life remains considerably more expensive.
The giveaway ends on November 2, 2026 at 14:00 UTC, so claim it before then and it stays in your GOG library.
