Konami is giving away the original Castlevania for free on iOS and Android as part of the series’ 40th anniversary celebration.
This is the classic NES version that helped launch one of gaming’s most famous gothic action series. You play as Simon Belmont, armed with the legendary Vampire Killer whip, as he makes his way through Dracula’s castle and its collection of monsters, traps, and bosses that have been ruining perfectly good evenings since the 1980s.
The original Castlevania first appeared in Japan in 1986, with the international NES release following in 1987. Forty years and more than 30 Castlevania games later, Konami has brought the game to mobile as a free standalone release for the anniversary.
There is an important difference between this and a normal free-to-play promotion: download it during the giveaway period and you can continue downloading and playing it after the promotion ends. In other words, grab it once and Dracula can wait until you actually have time for him.
The free download is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play from September 25 until October 24, 2026 at 23:59 JST.

This is an easy pickup for retro gaming fans, Castlevania veterans, or anyone curious to see where the whole series began. Just remember that 1986 game design was not particularly interested in your feelings.
