System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is free on Epic Games Store from October 1 to October 8, 2026. Claim it during the giveaway and it stays in your library.
This is Nightdive Studios’ modernized version of one of the most influential sci-fi horror games ever made. You wake from cryosleep aboard the Von Braun in 2114 and quickly discover that the ship has become a nightmare of mutants, hostile machines, dead crew members, and one very familiar rogue AI.
System Shock 2 mixes first-person shooting with RPG systems, exploration, hacking, inventory management, psionic abilities, and survival horror. You can choose between the Marines, Navy, and O.S.A., which gives you different ways to build your character and approach the game.
The remaster keeps the original game intact while adding enhanced character and weapon models, improved animations, ultrawide support, performance up to 144 FPS, mod support, and cross-play co-op multiplayer. It is a much easier way to revisit the classic without having to convince a 1999 PC game that your modern computer means it no harm.
