At the start of the game, you can choose which level you want to tackle, so you’re not forced to beat stages in a strict order. This is a huge plus, especially considering how tough the game can be — much like the classic NES titles it’s inspired by.
The difficulty definitely adds to the nostalgic charm, but if you’re up for the challenge, you’ll find a lot to love here. The graphics are sharp and detailed, the soundtrack perfectly captures the atmosphere of old-school horror films, and the gameplay, while simple, feels tight and satisfying.
I’m definitely planning to dive deeper into it soon with a full playthrough, for now, here’s me playing the first stage and (barely) defeating Jason from Friday The 13th Series:

Gameplay-wise, Twilight Monk offers solid, fast-paced combat, the controls feel responsive and the world is interesting and well-crafted, but, saving system is frustrating as hell.
