Top 10 Weird Free Adventure Games on Steam

When you open up Steam and go to the free category, you get greeted with thousands of titles, most of which are free-to-play games that try to sneakily get money out of your pocket once you start playing. However, there are many truly free and truly great weird PC adventure games that are a joy to play – if you like weird stuff.

Video version of this post with gameplay of all games and my commentary:

I’ve compiled a list of 10 weird indie games that I’ve enjoyed and I hope you will too. In no particular order, I present Top 10 Weird Free Adventure Games on Steam:

10. Samorost 1

Top 10 Weird Free Adventure Games on Steam

Samorost 1 is remake of the original Samorost game from 2003, re-released with new music and better graphics. It’s a delightfully weird little game and one of my favorites from this list.

Samorost 1 has Mostly Positive reviews and is available for free on Steam.

9. Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist

Now that’s a title! This short 15-20 minute metagame is directed by William Pugh of The Stanley Parable and is just plain funny. But don’t waste time and listen to me, head over to Steam and download it for free!

Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist has Very Positive reviews and is available for free on Steam.

8. Awkward Dimensions Redux

Awkward Dimensions Redux is a very original and surreal game that feels like you’re watching someone else’s dreams or reading a diary you shouldn’t read. It’s a quite bizarre little walking simulator with some puzzles sprinkled in. All in all, it’s an emotional and personal game with good music and it’s 100% worth at least a try.

Awkward Dimensions Redux has Very Positive reviews and is available for free on Steam.

7. Doki Doki Literature Club!

doki doki

This insanely disturbing adventure game is also featured in our Top 10 Horror Games Worth Playing, although by the cutesy anime artwork you’d never guess what madness this game hides. Be warned, it takes a few hours until you get to the creepy part of the game that made it such a hit. Until then, it’s standard anime visual novel cuteness.

Doki Doki Literature Club! is available for free on Steam and it has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

6. The Good Time Garden

Just take a quick look at the pinky, fleshy weirdness of this adventure game in the trailer above and it may be immediately clear why this game has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam. I mean, it’s a game in which you walk around and slap strange naked creatures.

The Good Time Garden is available for free on Steam and it has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

5. Wurroom

wurroom

This short psychedelic adventure game is hand made from plasticine and it was created by just two weird guys; Michael Rfdshir and Serge Bulat. You can finish it fairly quickly and it has a few not-to-hard casual puzzles.

Wurroom is available for free on Steam and it has Very Positive reviews.

4. How To Cope With Boredom and Loneliness

In this indie point and click adventure you play as a journalist interviewing a 42-year old man who was grounded for life as a child and has been in his room since then.

This game features no real gameplay, 20 minutes of your life you wont get back and that one joke that will make you laugh through your nose.

How To Cope With Boredom and Loneliness is available for free on Steam and it has Very Positive reviews.

3. Off-Peak

off peak

Off-Peak is a surreal first-person adventure game that takes place in a very, very, very weird train station. This game features original music by Archie Pelago. On average, the game takes roughly 20-30 minutes to complete.

Off-Peak is available for free on Steam and it has Very Positive reviews.

2. Mitoza

Top 10 Weird Free Adventure Games on Steam

Mitoza is a surreal game of choices by Gal Mamalya, published by Second Maze. This game is made for people that like to see confusing and random things happening on the screen. People seem to love it, though, the reviews on Steam are a joy to read.

Mitoza is available for free on Steam and it has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

1. Yume Nikki

This cult classic is one of the most famous “weird adventure” games and it has that status for a reason! Explore the weird dreams in probably the best game made in RPG Maker.

Yume Nikki is available for free on Steam and it has Very Positive reviews.
